UI redesign & design system for a B2C iOS/Android app
A new visual world, a Figma ↔ Tailwind design system, and a React Native refactor of nearly 190 screens for a B2C pet-neobank app.

Context
PennyPet is a B2C app for pet parents: a bank account with partner cashback and flat-rate pet insurance. Several redesigns handed to outside vendors had led nowhere; only one visual lead held up, a pink-violet gradient for highlighted text, and it was underused.
I proposed going all the way: a complete visual world, a modernised brand image, and reworked flows. The launch of a gamification feature was the ideal way in for the redesign.
Typography
Work Sans, the original typeface, lacked character. I replaced it with Outfit, more contemporary and distinctive, and reworked the typographic hierarchy (sizes, weights, spacing) for legibility and balance across the screens.
Colour
The pink-violet gradient becomes the centrepiece: it paces the interface and highlights key actions and the gamification. I rationalised the secondary tints into a coherent, accessible, easily-extensible palette, which also carries the presentation of the three plans. Accessibility was held to at least WCAG AA.
Design System
I built a full design system in Figma, backed by Tailwind tokens through a community file: a direct match between design and code, fewer gaps, faster development. Six main screen templates were enough to cover nearly 190 screens, maximising reuse.
Development
The UI redesign came with a full React Native refactor:
- migrating NativeWind v3 to v4;
- rebuilding the ~190 screens on the new templates;
- a unified component library.
Shipping screens became noticeably faster and more reliable. About five weeks were enough to migrate the whole app.
Impact
The new identity was very well received by users and investors alike, strengthening PennyPet’s credibility. Internally, the design system and templates brought a clear productivity gain (roughly 200% across design and dev) while clarifying the technical stack: 190 screens rebuilt, 6 reusable templates, in 5 weeks.
